Since buzz phrases such as Web2.0 were banded about, it was closely followed by more buzz words like Social Web, Social Media, Social Networking & Social Bookmarking – Phew – That’s a whole load of “social”… As a Small Business Owner or Solo Entrepreneur, does this make your head spin? Do you know what it’s all about?  Do you know how all these Social Strategies can benefit your business?

To get clarity, take a couple of minutes to watch the following video’s  from the creative minds at CommonCraft.com where they explain each topic “in plain english.”

Social Media in Plain English Social Networking in Plain English Social Bookmarking in Plain English

Having a good social strategy has many benefits, including:

  • Boosting your traffic – Increase the number of visitors to your site
  • Accelerating your rankings – Build your rank with search engines at a faster pace

All these social elements of the web can create quite a loyal following for you and your business if done correctly. The opposite is also true. Get it wrong and be left with a PR disaster. The easiest way to succeed in our experience are to follow these 3 simple rules.

  1. Treat others the way you would like to be treated
  2. Listen more at what is being said, to truly understand what peoples’ needs are
  3. Give value without expecting to receive anything in return

Having a solid social marketing strategy can be very powerful, but can easily turn into a very expensive time vacuum. That why it’s always our focus to look at tools and techniques that are more effecient. Saving you time and much more.

Facebook Friend Tagging  [Twitter Retweet Style]

Facebook: Friend Tagging & Sharing links [Twitter Retweet style]Back in September Facebook added the ability to tag your Friends and Connections, including Groups, Events, Applications and Pages in your updates (very similar to Twitter @messages). This is a really great feature and although popular with some, not everyone seems to know about it.

Here’s the simple instructions:

To tag someone, type @ and then the Friends Name/Group/Event/Application/Fan Page name:

Facebook: Friend Tagging & Sharing links [Twitter Retweet style]

When posted to your profile, your status looks like this:

Facebook: Friend Tagging & Sharing links [Twitter Retweet style]

The name is linked to the tagged Facebook profile (a notification is sent to the tagged friend with the option to remove the tag if preferred).

I immediately saw the potential for people to endorse Friends/Fan Pages/Groups etc. You can now mention them on your wall – without leaving yours and the status update is also shown on their wall. This would also save you time if you were going to post the same info on your profile plus another Profile/Fan Page/Group etc.

Straight away I used tagging to copy and share what other people were posting – like we do on Twitter – and my friend Mari Smith sent me this tweet:
